1. Scope

1.1 What this guide covers

  • Preparing installation media and required network/hardware information.
  • The unattended base OS install and the interactive first-boot setup wizard.
  • A standalone (single-node) deployment, end to end.
  • A two-node HA cluster deployment (with an optional third quorum-device host), end to end.
  • Base configuration after install: admin password, network/NTP/timezone, firewall, security features, first share, license activation.
  • Common installation problems and how to resolve them.

1.2 What this guide does not cover

  • Active Directory / winbind domain join (see the AD integration guide).
  • Advanced ZFS tuning (ARC sizing, L2ARC/SLOG performance devices, multi-vdev layouts beyond the installer's own prompts).
  • Uploading a custom TLS certificate (Configuration → TLS certificate in the GUI covers this on its own).
  • Day-2 operations: snapshot policies, restic/S3 backup targets, RAUC A/B software updates, diagnostic bundles.

1.3 Applicable versions

This guide matches installer ISO build 44 and management GUI 0.2.5. Screens, prompts and default values described here are current as of that build; an older or newer build may differ in minor wording.
